Skimmer Going CRAZY After Water Change

Hey All!

Did a water change yesterday and this morning my skimmer is still going crazy, even with the skimmer valve almost closed. I did add some live rock yesterday, could that be the problem.

Also, i tried to make sure the water level was the same! Any ideas as to whats causing my crazy skimmer!?

Trouble shooting 101
You added Rock-possibly something on the rock.
Was the water you used the same as before?
Is the skimmer new? Broken in yet?

The water is RO water, although it is from a different store? The skimmer is a month or so old and was working fine before this (after it had broken in)

Has to be the rock you put in then. Take it out, see if skimmer calms down.

My skimmer went crazy after I swapped in a new pair of filter socks (first time I had changed the socks since I set up my tank 16 months ago, was just cleaning the original pair until now). I actually bought two new sets (2x 100 micron socks which set off the skimmer, 2x Thin Mesh bags) so I made sure I rinsed the other new bags well before using them and had no issues.

It’s probably the dead organics on the new rock. I’d recommend adding extra carbon and turning off the skimmer for a couple days.
