Skimmer going crazy

Hello I just started my saltwater aquarium Its almost a month into it I just changed my sock and after changing the sock my skimmer went bunkers I tried raising it 1 in then 2 in when I did the the bubbles quit reaching the cup

A new skimmer will often run crazy until it breaks in. Also when you cleaned your socks if you stirred up a lot of detritus in your sump it will over generate. It should calm down.

Did you put in a brand new sock when you changed out the dirty one? New socks always do this to skimmers. You can prevent it if you thoroughly rinse them or wash them before hand. After the first use though they won't do it again.

After a few hours of letting it run crazy and dumping what the cup picked up my skimmer is doing just fine now

Yes it was a brand new sock thank you for the information I finally got it to calm down after a few hours and dumping a few (10) cups full of water out then topped it off thank you!
