For the longest time i have always used reef octo skimmers.

I am setting up a new 50 IM lagoon, which will be decently stocked with fish and corals.

I love @Bulk Reef Supply and it seems they have discontinued Reef Octo.

Looking for recommendations on what skimmer to get. Thanks in advance!

I have used and liked the NYOS skimmers....easy to clean and quiet. Currently I am trying a Red Sea Reefer with auto leveling and so far it has been fantastic. Basically plug and play as far as skimmers go........detects water level in skimmer body and increases or decreases pump power to make sure the water is at the proper level at all times.

I believe BRS is discontinuing many product lines if they (BRS) are not the sole US distributor (or manufacturer). If you like Reef Octopus, you can still get them through reputable online retailers including Premium Aquatics, Saltwater Aquarium, to name just a couple.

If you prefer to shop only with BRS (which is understandable considering its long-term positive impact on the reefing community) then I am sure you will get some good alternatives to Reef Octopus in this thread.

BRS isn't the only decent online vendor. I sure wouldn't change brands because my favorite vendor stop carrying the line to promote only products produced by companies the parent company owns but that's just me. Saltwateraquarium.com has been awesome as have aquacave and premium aquatics the latter two who have sales tax included in the price which can be a pretty substantial savings. JMO

Just a few options.

@Waters Which one? Do you happen to have a link?

@EeyoreIsMySpiritAnimal Good look on the links, thank you!

Here you go....they are pricey (they require the Red Sea Controller which this link includes) but so far they seem worth the extra money.

Is this hard to set up?

Not at all....that is one of the selling points of the skimmer. There are two probes...one monitors water level in the skimmer body and one monitors skimmate level in the cup. The skimmer adjusts the first automatically and alerts you of the second. As far as long term performance, I can't talk much about that since I have only been using it for a couple of months. I will say there was no break in period which was nice.
