Hello I am running a Cadlights PLS 50 elite and am very happy with it so far. After about a week there were no micro bubbles and it is skimming great. However I am trying to find a fix for one problem. Every time I turn the skimmer off to feed the tank this thing pours micro bubbles for a couple hours after it gets turned back on. I am letting the water level in the sump area settle for 5 min before turning skimmer back on but still takes it a couple hours to stop spewing bubbles and start skimming again. Anyone have any ideas on how I could stop this. Thanks

Check to make sure the angled cut hole of the air intake stem (on the volute) is turned facing inward towards the pump body. If you look into the volute and you see the angled cut hole, then it is facing the wrong direction and needs to be turned.

I honestly wish I knew what you were referring to but have no clue. Can you dumb it down to a 3rd grade level for me?

This might help, see #12...

Perfect so I shouldn't be able to see the cutout. And if I do I need to turn it to face pump body. Thanks will check when I get home from work and let you know.

see that "air" stem sticking up on #12, pull off the "volute" and check to see that the cut angle is facing into the pump.

Ok took off that part and this is the only angle I see. Is this what you are referring too

no, it's the air intake stem, that nipple that the air hose connects to on the pump side.

That's pretty normal. Your skimmer is reacting to the food. There isn't any reason to turn off the skimmer when you feed as it will not skim the food out. When you add the food it will kill the foam head on your skimmer for 20min or so, then it will start to skim normally again. The only thing turning off the pump every time you feed is going to do is shorten the life of the pump.

143MPCo Ok the nipple on there is fixed and all one unit so I can't see the pump side. However I can't see and cuts on front so guess it is correct.

Luke133- I was killing the skimmer because I kill the return pump and the water level rises. Didn't want skimmer to overflow when this happened. I was killing the return in order to give the fish a chance to eat before it was sucked away from them. Maybe I don't need to do this?

To luke33 point, it is normal to have some micro bubble after you turn the skimmer back on. In your original post you stated it "spews" them. Would you say as much as when it was breaking it?

Yes , and that isn't so much the issue. I just didn't expect it to take 4-6 hrs to stop doing it. If it is just the way it is with this skimmer then I will just deal with it. It isn't as bad as some folks tanks I have seen and am just expecting to much.

Different foods will cause different levels of micro's. Also if the skimmer is fairly new this could be a break in type of thing for a while. As far as killing your return and skimmer, I would let them work for their food, the ocean current doesn't stop when a fish is hungry : )
