I have a Reefer 170. I recently changed to a Redsea Reefer Skimmer 300. The unit seems great in itself but I have a problem with noise.
I’m no scientist but the size of this skimmer means it takes up the vast majority of the sump and is very close the the sides - so there is little water volume to dampen down any resonating noise. This resonating manifests itself by way of a ‘hum’ which, in truth, isn’t helped by the fact I have a hard floor.
So I’m thinking I need to change to a smaller foot print skimmer which hopefully also has an efficient pump. Assuming all my logic holds up can anyone suggest an appropriate unit please? I’ve read the Nyos 120 is quiet and some of the more expensive Reef Octopus (with the varioS pumps) are also great. Can anyone confirm please?
Need to change it as its driving the wife mad and that’s not a sensible strategy!
