Skimmer ideas for 14g biocube

Hi MacKrell, I know Reef Octopus makes a nano skimmer but I'm not sure of the dimensions of the chamber in the 14 Biocube.

Also, you really don't have to run a skimmer in a tank that small but I guess it depends on what you are putting in it. With tanks that small, it's easy to over-skim the water so I usually don't recommend it.

Ok thanks. Ill check it out. Have lots of zs and ps with couple sps frags and some small chalice frags. Maybe the coralife skimmer would work just to remove a little bit of debris. I have a yellow watchmen goby, scooter dragonet and cleaner shrimp along with turbos and hermits.

If you're getting a red scooter then I would just save your money and not get the skimmer. Your bioload isnt too bad so I think your good.
If you were going to run it dry to get phosphates and nitrates out then a good alternative could be a mangrove which is what I use in all my tanks.

I think I like a skimmer, if I could find a nice small one that worked and fit that back compartment be great . How many mangroves so u need. The tips of the plants have to stick up out of the water right? I dunno if that would be possible in my setup.

I agree with Alex on that one too.
If you're going to go the mangrove route, then 1 should be fine for a 14g. I currently have two in my 30 gallon and they do the job once they get adjusted. It's going to be a slow start but once it kicks in then you should be good to go. Make sure you get some good ones too with visible roots and maybe some leaves. If not then make sure it at least has a bud on it at the top.
And yes it has to be above water, i use a thin piece of styrofoam and it just sits in my overflow compartment.

Agreed. My sons 14gal biocube has been running 3 years flawlessly. 40% water change once a week carbon/gfo and no problems. The best upgrade I did was adding retro leds it took care of the heat and light problem. I've always run gfo /carbon though.

I have a 14 biocbue and i have to overfeed my bi color bleeny or he picks at my coral and i am having ot get a protein skimmer but am having a hard time finding one i bought the biocube skimmer to hold it over until i get a better one, anyone found one that fits

Tunze 9002 works with some cutting and light dremel work. You need to get the slim cup too if you want it to fit under the hood.
