quick question...

if you have an external built skimmer...(like an H&S A110 or A150), that has a dedicated recirculation pump AND a seperate feed pump, and place it in a sump with water in it...

...will the skimming performance vary depending on the level of the water the skimmer is sitting in? (as long as the feed pump is submerged...duh ;) )

(I know this matters for an in-sump skimmer obviously)

The h&s skimmers are awesome. My Deltec has a similar design but only one pump. It only has a recirculating pump. The supply to the skimmer is gravity fed from the overflow. I have my Deltec in my sump. The trick is to keep the water line 1" below the return line from the skimmer. As long as you can't get backflow thru your return line you should be allright. Im not sure if it would effect performance. Have you checked the h&s thread on rc? Theres alot of good info on setup in there. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=561761&highlight=H&S+A110

I would think the external models could be used insump. I know you can't use the insump models externally because the fittings are not sealed. I made a thread asking your question in the h&s forum on rc. I couldnt find an answer doing a search and it was bothering me.

Alex,

Nice little site here, I was wondering where all the zoa people went! None the less I dont know if you ever heard but I picked up an H&S A150 because they are literally down the road from me. I actually run mine internally as well and couldnt be happier with it, skims much better then any other skimmer I have had experience with and does so consistently unlike many other skimmers I have dealt with. I have noticed no problems when the water level fluctuates, just dark stinky skimmate non stop.
