I have a Reef Octopus skimmer rated for 180g on my 150 reef. The skimmer has been on there since the tank was setup almost a year ago.I did just recently add a gfo/carbon reactor because of a little hair algea issue. It seems like the last 2 months my skimmer as been barely producing any skimmer.I get a fraction of what I used to. Any thoughts on why?

Is it making any noise? Make sure all the parts are clean and the air tubes are free. Have you tried raising the internal water level any?

No the skimmer is making no noise.I have cleaned the skimmer and pump.Check the air line and it is good.Nothing has really changed with the skimmer besides the lack of skimmate.

did you just visually look at the air line or did you clean it also..

I usually clean all my parts when this occurs. Sometimes on rare occasions the dust from my house tend to clog up the air line, But that's only when I haven't touched it for over a year. Also what is the tank inhabitants, is it a well stocked tank? You may not have enough bio load for it to skim out anything. Who knows.

It is most likely a dirty or clogged air intake. the venturi nozzle easily clogs with salt creep and other buildup.

Once a year, I usually take my skimmer out and run it in a vinegar bath for 24hrs.

Ok thanks guys i got it figured out.The piece where the airline goes in had a bunch of salt still around it.I cleaned it up and just went with a new piece of tubing and shes back too her old stinky self!!!!!!!
