Ok idk if something is wrong with the skimmer or am i just not tuning it right. one way it fills the cup with water.. turn a little the other and nothing goes into the cup at all and the neck fills with nasty stuff.... its like i cant find the sweet spot or something! can someone help me out?

I tune mine until the foam reaches the bottom of the collection cup in the neck. Works well. Do you have a guaranteed water height in your skimmer chamber? I.e. it doesn't change with evaporation.

sounds like the sweet spot is in the middle leaning toward the nasty neck (that just sounds wrong) position. Can you describe nasty?

Its swc not sure what model but I think its kevans old one 120 I think. Its not bigger than that.

+1 to what palvrye said. What is your water level in your skimmer section. I have a warner marine 181 and it sits in 9in of water and i have the foam at bottom of collection cup. Pulls some nasty stuff out. Make small adjustments at a time.

Mike your statement is correct! it is a SWC and it is kevans old one. I believe it was a 120. I have 8 " of water in the chamber where the skimmer is

I do put it at the bottom of the collection cup and i wake up next morning and is overflowing or close to it :/

i think your maybe expecting it to pull out more junk than it will or maybe faster than it will and are adjusting to much. i know my reef octopus skimms nice and consistant and nvr overflows or anything like that. ill come over thurs/friday and see if i can help any.

It's a SWC 160. And his sump is designed just like my old one. 8" baffles, so that isnt the issue. I think you are simply either running it way too wet, or too dry. Also, it's time to pull it offline, and take it completely apart and clean it real well. One thing you need to check on is the threading coming from the pump to the bubble diffuser plate needs to be teflon taped real well. I found that once mine wore down a bit that I would have big bubbles breaking up the smaller ones, and causing some pressure and turbulence, and then it would overflow suddenly. Also be sure to take the air tube off and clean it with hot water and your dial to tune the air has a very small screw on top of it, you need to remove that screw and pull the top off and make sure dust hasnt clogged up in there too. A good cleaning will go a long way with this particular skimmer.

Make sure you adjust the wedge pipe in very very small increments.

I have a different skimmer but it wasnt performing like it should. I could not get more air into it all. upon removing my air valve and running hot water thru it to make sure there was no salt creep in it, a big glob of dust came out the other end. YUCK!!! performs much better now. Big skimmers use ALOT of air.
