First off I have a Seaclone. I know it is not the greatest but it use to work. I say use to because it only skimming at night now. About an hour after the lights go off it starts making foam. What could cause it to do this? Plua it only makes skimmate for a couple hours. It use to skim all day. What is going on? Thanks for the help inadvance.

Cleaning? Is the airline free of crap, and the pump, is the impellar clean and free of that Ca build up that can accumulate around the magnet?

I would start with a Vinegar bath for the whole thing.

One of the problems is that it is a Seaclone....I had one on a 40 gallon it worked great for awhile but to get it working like a better skimmer was a problem. So I upgraded to a HOB Aqua-C remora on that tank.....They are not a good long term skimmer in my opinion....

I would start with a cleaning like Poseidon said and go from there....

+ 1 " not a good long term skimmer"... Sad to say I also used that on my early days and learned a lesson .. throw a few buck more and get a Aqua C.. will worth the extra money ...

Just to let you know I have a Aqua C Remora HOB skimmer for sale $50shipped.....I don't have the MJ1200 or the band for the collection cup but I always got better skim with it all the way down.....If your interested in upgrading from that Seaclone let me know...

So because it might be dirty could be the reason? How would it being cause it to always start making skimmate an hour after the lights go off? Is there any other reason this would happen. Salinity is at 1.022. I have a ATO with Kalkwasser/RODi freshwater.

Does the ATO top off during the day and not at night? If it does then that could be the reason....I know when I top off or add stuff my skimmer sometimes stops for awhile but starts up again once it is all mixed in and settled....Salintiy is a bit low compared to natural normal saltwater....
