I think I have the Bad Mechanical Fairy hanging over my tank....a long running saga. I have a Euroreef Skimmer on my 120, good water depth (7" +) and have been running it on a replacement sedra for a time. Replaced my sump this weekend, put everything back together and now the skimmer is freaking out. Seems like the pump is pulsing, rather than giving an even flow. Thoughts before I assign this point of sale to the scrapheap and hunt a new one (up for recommendations on a new one as well).

Thanks in advance.

Im sure theres design differences between mine and yours, but I have to deal with this everytime I turn off or clean my Deltec MCE300. The siphon doesnt engage due to some air trapped in the pump, and it will pulse like you describe yours, or sometimes will just be stagnant. On mine, the fix is to suck out the trapped air through the air line, and then to quickly close the air valve on the air line. Not sure if the Euroreefs have a similar design.

Makes sense, naturally I have the pump and airline to the rear of my pumpbox. That's gonna be a design flaw ;) . I'll give that a whirl.

Good luck.If that doesnt work, try blowing down the airline to expel the trapped air and then quickly close the valve. For whatever reason, these two methods work on mine everytime.

Nope. Actually looking at it closer, it's like it's passing large bubbles into the mix. Not sure where that is coming from...

Sorted it out. Shores comment was basically right. Its limping a bit, but has recovered. Gonna have to replace this eventually. Still, sump got replaced with a DYI sump (which had to be built in two parts, I have a center divider that can't be moved). Miles ahead in terms of basic design improvements. Now onto retooling my old hood to hold my evolution LED's and a couple of VHOs (just to fill in and provide a little extra). And cable management. Ugh.
