I was given 100lbs + of really nice once live rock. The rock was sitting in stagnant water that was left in the tank. I placed the rock in a spare tank and have a heater and couple power heads for circulation. It been running for 3 weeks now and no signs of ammonia yet. Do you think it would be ok to use skimmer juice from my main tank as a source of ammonia to cycle this rock? Just curious to hear people's thoughts.

I actually did that when I started up my 40 breeder. I used the skimmate from my nano doc 9002 on my 24g nano to help the cycle on my 40 breeder when I was setting that up. It didn't hurt anything and may have helped it along in the cycle. The cycle took 4 weeks exactly using skimmate and 2 cubes of mysis.

I was debating what to use when I seen a big cup of skimmer juice sitting there figured what the heck.

You could use that. Or throw a shrimp from the store in a fish net, and lay the net in the water.

I like the skimmate idea, never heard of that before. I think it would work very well. I wouldn't pour a whole collection cup in, but I really have no clue how much would be needed.

Oops prob shouldn't have poured the entire cup in from this bad boy. This is a picture when I first installed it on my 215.
