How long does a typical reef octopus skimmer last? I have the opportunity to buy a used one (7-8 months of use) and wanted to figure out how long they will run.

Should last years if properly taken care of. 7-8 months is basically just broken in.

Running a sss1000 for going on four years now. To me the life of a skimmers depends on maintenance and most of all a good pump.

Yeah the pump is the heart of the skimmer. Take care of it and it will take care of you. Reef octopus is a great brand and if you get it for a decent price if after a year the pump dies you are still ahead.
