Lighting - My tank has recently cycled and every time I turn the skimmer on it goes crazy and skims extremely wet, basically clear water in to the collection cup. Skimmer is a Tunze 9004 sitting in the tank itself at the right height, I've adjusted the air intake and it hasn't helped. How do I overcome this and get the benefits of using the skimmer?

Lighting - I have 2 Kessil A360WE's over my tank, the tank length is 36", what is the best distance to have between each light and or the ends of the tank?

Thanks.

Sounds like you need to pull the drain plug on your skimmer and just let it run. Most skimmers need a break in period.

You're saying to take the skimmer cup off and let it run for a while?

No, I would leave the cup on....most skimmers have a small drain in the bottom of the collection cup that you can remove. It is normally for attaching a drain hose to collect into a larger container. You can also try running a vinegar solution through your skimmer (outside the tank obviously). That can speed up the break in process.

The Tunze 9004 doesn’t have a drain line but the folks above are correct. There’s a break in period with any new skimmer. I would pull the skimmer and run it in a mixture of water and vinegar for 24 hours. This will help shorten the break in period. Rinse it well and return to the tank to run normally. It should settle out within a few days.
