So, I am considering adding a 3 inch extension to the neck of my SRO Xp3000Int skimmer. this will supposedly increase the Dwell time for the water in the skimmer and thus increase the skimming ability of the skimmer.

do you think there is any truth to this? the extension is $45 so its not expensive to do

Are trying to fix a problem? I would not think it would help, but I really do not know.

IMO I can't see why the 3" would make any difference in performance. I think it's better for water depth issues. Can't hurt to try for $45 but I have the 2000sss in recommended water depth and it performs outstanding.

Mine is in the recommended depth. Works fairly well I think. This effectively raises the cup as its an extension to the bottom of the cup.

This will only make your skim thicker. To.make more effecient you would need taller skimmer body to increase contact time of the bubbles with water or smaller bubbles.

If you leave the gate valve where it is then you will increase the dwell time by about 10% (assuming a 24" body). Skimmate will be thicker as another poster stated. If you close the gate valve to raise the water level then you're not really doing much.

Having done this with my old Reeflo skimmer adding 12" to the neck did improve performance, but without changing the impeller it will IMO just make your current skimmer pump work harder to do the same job. JMHO
