Skimmer not workong?

Hi everyone,

I’m fairly new to this, (tank been running for 3 months)

Not sure if my skimmer is working?? It’s always empty, (see pic) never seen foam or any signs of it working. Yes it is turned on… is there something I’m doing wrong?

Tank info:

Red Sea 20 gallon max nano (comes with protein skimmer)
2 clown fish 1 sixline

Is it producing bubbles?

Not familiar with that setup. However the skimmer should be foaming enough so that just enough is being collected in the cup.

update! as I was checking for the air intake, which was connected, I noticed a little twisty notch (shown in image) and the second that I turned it the skimmer started bubbling! should I have it all the way open or halfway?

Just enough so that the cup is barely collecting foam . Should take a few days between being emptied
