Skimmer on small tank questions

I have a 30 gallon display with sump, 40 gallons total volume. All the skimmers I have looked at to go in the sump, are rated way bigger than my water volume. Am I just out of luck running a skimmer, or do I have to go with a small hang on the back for the display. Anyone running a smaller tank what skimmers are you using?

Hi you could do either, IMO can't be too big when talking skimmers, if it's not there ,it won't pull it out.
also can run 3 days on ,3 days off .

I agree, you can never go too big with skimmers. I ran an aquamaxx 1.5 on my 32 gallon for years, I think its rated for 50-75 gallons.
