Skimmer or fugue in 29g?

I have a very heavily stocked 29 gallon biocube. I currently run the biocube skimmer in my first chamber. I was looking into the InTank media baskets I want to get one. They also offer a fugue basket. Those would both take up the second chamber. Or I can skip the fuge basket and go with a larger skimmer. Thoughts?

My fiancé says downsize my stock. I say upgrade tank. Both of those are out of the question.

Thank you for the feedback. I am still unsure. I might get the fuge and try it because its a cheap package deal for fuge and media tray. And I'll see if there is a bigger protein skimmer that I can mod into the first chamber.

Are you aware if any skimmers that fit in the first Chamber?

Better bang for your buck with a larger skimmer. The fuge they offer really isn't large enough to make much of an impact on your system, but a larger skimmer most certainly could. IMO :smile:

Very helpful. With two in saying the skimmer looks to say I will be going the skimmer rout. Do you suggest the skimmer they offer?

If you want a bigget skimmer, the tunze 9002 is the biggest skimmer I believe will fit it. You can buy a different cup to make it fit the hood.

I ran a skimmer in the first chamber. The Aquatic life mini skimmer.

I then scraped the paint off the back, put a make shift light for the hood and then add sone chaeto. Worked great and I was able to have the media rack, skimmer and small fuge. Would take pictures but i have since upgraded it. Hope this helps.

What all have you done to it so far? Some of the mods are simple. Some are a lot more difficult and require the tank to be empty.

Sounds too simple but if you take the elbow off the outlet into the tank and have the hose directly connected, you get a little more flow.

There is also a new small reactor you can get for your tank if you are having nitrate problems. Just gfo, bio pellets or carbon.

It is the innovative marine max all-in-one. I would do a direct link but I am on my phone.

Of course be cautious when using it in such a small tank. Fine tune and make sure it doesn't do its job too well and scrub all the nutrients out.

I just have rapid LEDs and well stocked. Haha. I currently have the oceanic skimmer. That's about it.

I love my cubes. I have 4 biocubes. All saltwater.

The RapidLED was tricky for me because I know nothing about soldering and how that stuff works. After 3 weeks of fidgeting with it I got them working. They fit like a glove in there, and they look amazing! I since then introduced a rapidled kit on my 42g corner tank, and my 8g cube.

I just ordered a new led system from stevesLEDs I think it was called. But I paid the extra $40 to have him build it for me so I can just drop it in on my other 29.

I like the rapid because I also set it up so my blues and whites are on seperate dimmers.

Do both! I have aquatic life 115 skimmer in first chamber, on the second chamber I have custom media basket including filter floss, then biopellets, purigen, chemi-pure elite, and chaeto, then third chamber I got a heater. Only thing I would consider is getting a smaller heater for my third chamber because the water level can drop due to evaporation.

Do you upgrade the filter and protein skimmer first or get a controller?
I can only afford one or the other right now...

Upgrade the filter and skimmet first. Will make your life muxh easier.

Also don't worry about a controller quite yet. Work with a couple of timers for now and upgrade that later when you have the money.

Thanks for the heads up. I will be ordering a skimmer and media basket this week.

I have been going the past 12 years without a controller. What's a few more months I guess. Haha. Plus I did order an aqualifter that I was going to use as a ATO.

What are you going to be running with the controller?

I didn't invest in one until I got a bigger tank and even then it still wasn't like I needed one. I dosed in the morning before i head to work. Works great unless I got iut of town and then it is just a slow climb back to the proper levels.

Was planning on using it to control pumps, lighting and ato. Along with being able to watch my ph and salinity.

I have the hydor wavemaker but I read that it starts each pump at full speed and its bad for the motor. Since I've got it I have heard my pumps get louder and louder on startup.

Plus the thought of being able to check on the tank from my phone seemed pretty rad.

I had a InTank media basket on my 8g bio-cube. Personal experience was that the chaeto did nothing but rot, die and break apart. Yes I had everything with it. Was just a total pain.
Go with a bigger/better skimmer. I'm running the Reef Octopus BH-1000 on my 26g. Love it!
