Good afternoon all,

I have the Bubble Magus A8 in sump skimmer (pump at the bottom)...

Putting together my first reef aquarium...

Does it matter which direction in the skimmer compartment that the intake is positioned/aimed? Depending on how I orient it will give me another inch or so in my refugium compartment.

Thanks,
J

I don't believe it matters, however best it fits :)

you just want to make sure it has enough space in front of the intake to get a good supply of water. if its too close to the wall you get limited flow

I do not think there is an orientation issue with this skimmer. It intakes and outputs water into the same compartment and I can't see how that would be "direction-ally compromised" in this case. If water is cascading into that compartment, creating air bubbles into the skimmer intake, that might have an impact but other than this I can't see an issue. This is somewhat of a guess without seeing your set up, but in theory I believe that as long as the skimmer is submerged under a proper water level it would not make any difference which way your intake faces. ( Totally discounting the Coriolis force here,...) Hope this helps.
