I recently bought a used RedSea RSK300 for my tank and thought I had it tuned fairly well and was making good skimmate. Except for the last 2 days when it overflowed while I was at work and I had a near empty ATO. So it brings me to this. It is stocked with a few chromus, a small foxface, small sailfin tang, lawnmower and bicolor blenny and 4 small clowns, about 8 snails 3 hermits, 2 conchs and a sea hare. We have some coral all softies and LPS in a total volume of 70 gallons.

The bubbles of the skimmer are going up about 1/2 up the cup when I am observing it. I have the water level in the middle of the 'water level' sticker that is on the adjuster.

So my question is this. Is there something that would be causing it to go nuts while I am at work. Could it be the ATO (Tunze) that is causing the issue and letting to much water in at one time, or could it be the water in my ATO that is causing it? Could it be the sea hare that is causing it by releasing something into the water column that causes it to go nuts? I am just wondering as I am worried about the tank, because I am going out of town next week and my girlfriend is going to look after it. If something were to happen to it she would be devastated as she picked out most of the livestock in the tank (the sea hare being her favorite). It could also be that I am horrible at tuning the skimmer and may need some advice.

Sailfin in a 70g total volume o_O

Just adjust the depth and skim darker
Yeah I know, its about the size of a silver dollar and will be given away when its gets twice that size. I'm not that person who will keep a fish that is to large for the tank.

So run it shallower to reduce the chances of it over skimming?
