I am annoyed i woke up this morning to a floor with water on it, looked and the skimmer sucked out 5+ gallons of water, why do skimmers have to be so picky on the amount of skimmate they produce. I adjusted mine about 1/100000000th to get just a touch more wet skimmate and boom 5 gallons on the floor this morning.

basement floor with a drain right by so not a big deal, but still what the heck!

I had the same issues with my BM 7.

I found that it was more consistent if I had lower water levels (I raised the skimmer). It was still picky in about 5"-6" of water, but more manageable.

Usually skimmers are on the ragged edge when you run them in deeper water. Like brew said, raise it up a little and see if that helps.

On another note, are you running the skimmer in a baffled sump? If not, water level fluctuations will also make tuning the skimmer optimally impossible. If you are skimming wet to begin with and the level rises in the sump the skimmer could possibly go berserk...

yes baffled sumo, no change in water level there. more of a rant than anything i know i can raise it a bit but just annoyed....

Cheap float switch can save you a lot of headaches

well duh, y didnt i think of that! I have the cup exit going into a larger 3 gallon container , that would be a great solution to this!
Just clean it often. Skimmer gunk and float switches don't play well with each other without regular maintenance.

I have my float in my overflow container, only for emergencies...
So far, knock on wood it has not seen any skimmate...[emoji51]
