I have a vertex omega 130 was working great for a while then I treated the tank with chemi clean. I have tried to clean the skimmer with RO water with vinegar still overflows. This has been about 2 months now. Have a 47 gallon bow front with a 60 gallon sump, 21 gallon fuge with a deep sand bed in the sump. I do a 20 gallon water change every sunday. still my skimmer overflows! Cant figure it out. Any help would be great thanks.

But, you don't treat with chemiclean anymore? And it still overlfows?
You have the flow turned all the way down? Is the air intake clogged up, and not enough air getting to the pump?
Still in the same water depth as before? Have you tried raising your skimmer up a bit more?

Yes its still overflowing, and I haven't treated since that one time. I haven't changed the depth but if I raise it up any more the out tube will be out of the water. I tried adjusting the air intake to just about every position to no avail. I could lower it in the water but not sure if that will work.

You still have chemiclean in the system. Let the skimmer remove it by using the drain in the skimmer cup to remove the water for your weekly water change. You'll have to sit there and babysit while the skimmer removes the excess chemiclean. I'm willing to bet it will calm down before you pull out the 20 gallons you need for the water change.

You may also have to go through the breakin process all over again...which with the vertex means lots of overflowing.

I have done 8 - 20 gallon water changes you think there is still chemiclean in the system? I have tried running the skimmer like the break in period. It overflowed for a week and it never settled down.

If we assume 100 gallons total volume, those eight water changes calculate out to approximately 17% chemclean still in the system.

When I first set my skimmer up it overflowed for about 3 weeks which I hear is very common for the vertex.

ok. did my water change running the skimmer to do about half of the 20 gallons finally settled down! Now we'll see if it stays like that or not. thanks for all the advise.

I have a reef octo 110 and it will randomly overflow for a few days. It seems like I can never get it adjusted just perfect. It'll run good for weeks then one day it'll be over flowing. They're aggravating!
