I have a HOB aqua macro protein skimmer rated for 120 gallons, on a 10 gallon tank. Is this overkill and wont work in the long term? I was thinking of using the flow from the skimmer as the flow for the tank, would that work? Picture below

Thanks!

Skimmers are rated based on the total water volume and load. If the volume isn't big enough then it will not work correctly. Will it work, maybe, will you have to constantly adjust it because of the load, yes.

Granted I've never used that skimmer, but doubt it would keep up with the skimming needs of a 120 gallon tank.

I'd give it a shot.
