So I have spent all my pennies between the 29 gallon and the 90 gallon. But I found a sump at my LFS and decided it needed to be added to the 29 gallon. I believe it is about 10 gallons maybe a bit less. So here is my question:

The skimmer I own is a HOB type. Is it okay to put the pump in the return chamber and the outlet in the middle section? Any issues straddling chambers?

Also anyone have any idea how to set this up for a filter sock?

The only problem I could see coming from this is that you are creating the potential for a fluctuating water level in the chamber your skimmer is pulling water from. You may want to consider moding your output line to return water to the same chamber that you're pulling from.

As far as the sock goes. A cheap and easy fix is using a clamp. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06Z...stic+clamp&dpPl=1&dpID=51xa1zjz2CL&ref=plSrch
Something along these lines would work. I would just make sure to get one with all plastic components that might be coming in contact with the water.

Thanks for the filter bag ideas. I will check into those. I have decided that the skimmer is just not going to fit in the space I have. So for now it remains on the tank. So I have decided to go the route of a refugium.
