Skimmer Plumbing

Hello. I'm new at this, I have a MR-1 Protein Skimmer and I was wondering if it would work for me to connect the main drain/ drain tube (tank overflow) to the intake of the skimmer. Would it work? The return pump from the sump to the tank is a 1200GPH pump (MAG 12)

I feed my skimmer plumbed similar to that, although you may not want that much water going through your skimmer. You may want to put a T off your drain so you can control the flow to your skimmer.
My tank was drilled for a bunch of bulkheads in the overflow when I got it so I use one to feed my skimmer and 2 more goo to my filter socks. The feed to the skimmer has a much shorter tube in the overflow so it is always submerged. I also put an oversized screen on it to keep stuff out of the skimmer.
