My power goes out and glitches way more frequently than I would like to ever see and for the most part my tank handles it perfectly. The one thing that doesn't is the skimmer. The water level in the sump is high when it turns on, it pushes salt water, not bubbles up to the collection cup, and over flows in less than a minute. So if I am not around when the power glitches/comes back on. the entire concentrated contents of the skimmer cup is now in the water column. Does anyone know if there is a unit that I can plug my skimmer into that when the power goes out, the unit must be reset manually in order allow power to go to the skimmer? sort of like a gfci/afci, but for power glitches, rather than ground or arc fault detection.

Are you running an apex or any kind of controller?

I agree with @crabs_mcjones a controller would be you best bet. One can setup a delay or one can control the skimmer remotely. I nice thing about a controller is one gets an alarm email when there is a failure :)

Unfortunately, I am not running any sort of controller yet. My reef budget is currently spent by redoing my lighting and my recent hospital tank and medications experience. I do plan on eventually getting a controller, not sure I can bite the bullet for an apex, but maybe someday. Thanks for the heads up on the timer delay though, most all of my system is a diy lol :) that might be exactly what I do for now. Can this be done with a reef keeper? I was thinking of getting one as an entry level controller, and moving it to the hospital/qt system if I ever get an apex.
