Trying to decide wether or not to by this used skimmer. It comes with some external pumps but I want to use it as an internal skimmer. What pumps are compatible with an ETSS 600 xr skimmer?

Most ordinary pumps can work, but obviously you need the right size.

Can you tell us what pumps comes with it and maybe we can figure it out?

A little Googling for some "discontinued product" pages indicates 500-750 gph of flow are called for.

Considering plumbing and fittings, I'm guessing you'd want a Mag 7 or 9.5....something in that class.

The more flow you can get to these things the better they work. I would shoot for the 1000gph range for this skimmer.

One big drawback with these skimmers is because of the need of a very large, energy consuming pump compared to a needle wheel pump.

If I could offer a opinion I would pass on this and look for a internal skimmer that will suite your needs better

True, but if your tank isn't heat-limited (almost nobody is thanks to LED's) then it's not gonna matter a whole lot....your heaters will run less. Big whoop, right? :)

I actually had to add heaters to my system when I switched to a needlewheel. Really!

On the other hand, if you're one of the holdouts on halide or T5 light, then you might be more interested in putting less electricity into the tank.....it all ends up as heat.

If the skimmer is a good deal, I say go for it! It's big - but if it fits it's a nice skimmer!
