I have a Reef Octopus 250EXT external recirculating skimmer. My skimmer feed and recirculating pumps were plugged into different Apex EB832 energy bars. The energy bar controlling the skimmer feed pump tripped due to Finex heaters. This resulted in the skimmer recirculating pump running with almost no water. When I came downstairs in the morning I heard the rattling sound from the pump. I corrected the situation and re-started the pumps. Although noisy, the recirculating pump is working. I over nighted a new pump. After a day, the recirculating pump is still working and is quiet; based on noise and visual inspection of the skimmer it appears everything’s back to normal functioning.

Should I replace the pump since I have the new one? Test the new pump then save it? Save the money and return the pump? Opinions please.

I'm a back-up fanatic, so I'd keep the extra pump for when the original goes out for real....and it will.
