I am looking at the Skimz SM252 protein skimmer. On BulkReefSupply it says that it needs a 740 GPH feed pump.

I am not certain what is the best way to proceed with pump selection. The pumps that I am trying to decide between are:
  • Syncra Silent 3.0 Pump (714 GPH) - Sicce
    • A little under 740 GPH and probably a little under the rated 714 GPH due to head pressure.
  • Syncra Pro (800 GPH) - Sicce
    • Next size up from the 714 GPH pump. A bit higher flow rate than is recommended for the skimmer.
Which would be the better choice? Also, is there a variable flowrate pump that I might consider? I can't figure out if either of these is variable flow rate.

I'd go with the Syncra Pro 800 GPH, and use a valve between the pump and the skimmer to reduce the flow rate.
