Skimmer Q&A

I'm not sure if I can get an answer here, I am finishing a new build. Upgrade to a Red Sea XL200 from an Evo 13.5. I have exactly no experience with protein skimmers. I bought a Coral Box D300. I tried to install it today. When I started it, it was fine, a very low hum from the pump. I short order though it developed a very loud whining sound. As near as I can tell, just a guess, it is coming from the air input. The "silencer" is installed but the noise is very loud. Does anyone have experience or suggestion on a fix. I can't run it as is.

You can silence air intake but not much can be done for pump.
Look up diy protein skimmer silencer on YouTube. . . . Basically it’s a small plastic bottle with hoses going in and out

Thanks for the reply, I ended up pulling it out and reassembling it, quiet now
