Hey there everyone. New here. In short the 75 I bought thinking would be an African tank is now going to be a reef tank. Children really love the saltwater guys, so it's been an adventure in research. So, that's where I am at currently. Doing the research and deciding on equipment to kick start this tank. I've been able to find good resources on most everything, but something about skimmers is alluding me.
First, I will say I've decided on a Trigger Emerald 34 sump. If not familiar this sump has an adjustable water height in the skimmer section that ranges from 7''-9.5''.
I understand that skimmers have a water depth range. The skimmer I'd like to start with has a range rated from 9.5-11. This seems very odd as most others are below this with a range that seems to max at 9.5.
Anyway, thats a little beside the point. My question is, is a skimmer with a minimum of 9.5 a bad idea in a sump with 9.5 as the max height? Obviously you can raise a skimmer that requires shallower than the sump provides, but sinking a skimmer isn't doable. Would I want a skimmer that is in the middle of the sumps range...say if the skimmer with a min of 9.5 would need to be deeper for optimum performance?
