Hey I'm looking to buy a skimmer for our 225g tank. There is a nextreef nxs1 posted local for sale. I am very interested in this skimmer, has a upgraded pump and bigger cup. Stock is rated for 225 and seller says modded is rated to 400g. I'm trying to look for reviews and can not find any... Any input on this skimmer?

I have a sro2000sss, rated 180 how well will this skimmer work on this tank till I find a replacement? I just missed a sro5000sss : (
Fish load is
6in purple tank
5in regal
5in valimngi
4in tomini
3.5in scopas
4.5in yellow
4.5in power blue
Pair of bangi's
12 clowns
Midas blenny
Flame hawk
Velvet fairy wrasse
Splindid dotty back
Full of coral...

It's going great on our current tank. I have a rough budget of 4-500$. Should I find a used or save a little more and get a diablo RO series skimmer?

Any info is welcomed!
Thanks in advance!

Everything I see from skimmers to reactors look nice in quality. I just want to make sure this is the skimmer for me. It is recirculating, so that's a plus for heavy stocked tanks, skimmer is less than 2 years old... Main concern is it big enough? Also would I be better buying a different skimmer for my application?
Thanks for the help!

What skimmer would you pick for my tank? 500$ is the number I'm trying not to pass for new or used...

I wouldn't be scared of the nextreef. Call them and ask about the mods. I'm sure u could tell them what ya got goin on and they could tell ya if it was big enuff

I just upgraded to an MRC3R.

Had an ro that was rated for 180 light bioload. Was happy with what it was doing but this opportunity fell into my lap. Got a great deal on the mrc. I have a 180 w a 75 sump and a 40b frag all plumbed together and this enables me to add some more fish lol

The SRO will do ya in the short term. I'd not go with the NXS1 unless you were able to get your hands on the XL, the one your looking at is just rated to your tank size, it may not do the work needed in a stocked tank, imo.

I checked it out tonight. The skimmer is nice! Has the pump for the xl on it and a bigger cup. It is very nice setup. I am going to call nextreef tomorrow and ask what they think.

Did ya end up buying it?

I did not. Did not call either. For the price being asked for the skimmer I can not justify it. Price is 500$... I think for that price I can find a nice/better for my situation... Locally 2 vertex alpha 250's have been 500 and the other was less...
Just holding out for the right deal!
