I would say do not waste your time with that skimmer, it is junk. You'll just end up very frustrated that you wasted $99! If price is a concern, then perhaps a Reef Octopus Classic 100 HOB would be a decent alternative at $150.

Or better yet, for $100 you can get the Deepwater Aquatics HOB by JNS. Which is essentially almost the same design as the Aquamaxx HOB-1 with different acrylic and a different collection cup. JNS was the original designer of the Aquamaxx HOB-1.

+1 on the Reef Octopus Classic 100. Used one on my 60 gallon for close to a year and it worked great.
