I have a reef octopus skimmer its not quite a year old. It had been working pretty good, but the 3 weeks ago when I did my water change I emptied the cup. Since then it hasn't been working very well. Any ideas?

what model is it. the nwb models venturi get clogged up pretty easy. I agree Kuyatwo .

run some warm water down the air line. or pull the venturi off the front of the pump. inspect it and rinse it out at the sink.

I rinsed it out at first it looked like it was starting to skim again, but now it seems to have stopped again. Its weird its producing the little bubbles.

When you did your water change did you use any dechlorinator? Have you added any new equipment or dosed anything recently? Have you had a massive die off of any kind? Sounds like a chemical is causing your skimmer to do this. Could be something in the new water or something in your tank being released by a coral, but three weeks is strange.

I didn't add anything haven't had any die off, have had someone tell me my mushrooms which have loaded my tank are toxic

I rerinsed the impeller again on Saturday and it hasn't been getting any skimate in cup it has plenty of bubbles, ask lfs that I purchased it from and he was at a loss also!

I don't think it needs a cleaning, i think its something in your water. If you have a friend you could bring it over to his tank and see if it skimmed. I would almost bet my tank it would start skimming within a day. I would run carbon to start. What about filter socks, have those?

I would think the venturi has a salt deposit built up. I have to clean mine every few months or it acts just like what your describing.

He's already cleaned it out a few times, its clear. IMO there is no other explanation than water chemistry.

All of my water parameters are normal, I have talked to my lfs again he gave me a different pump. I put it on Saturday and it hasn't produced anything since still.
Ph 8.4,nitrites 0, nitrates 0,ammonia 0,spg 1.023. So everything is clean parameters are normal. Any other suggestions. My lfs said he would replace it when he gets more in.

a new pump will have to break in. it will take a 24 hours or more to start to break in.

post a picture. This will help much more. Lets see what you have going on.
