Skimmer Questions - SWC 150 BMK

Hello,

I have had this skimmer for about 9 months now and have been noticing some weird things over the last couple months (I'm curious). The pump has always been fine and it still runs quiet. I am curious to see if anyone else has seen this in their skimmers and if there are any concerns.

- Soapy shine to bubbles in skimmer cup, kind of like soap bubbles
- Skimmer cup neck gets skin on the inside instead of in the cup, I have to clean the inside of the cup every 3 to 5 days.
- skimmer bubbles can get built up in the neck and not drop down in the cup. I believe this is what causes the inside of the neck to get build up. I was thinking of finding a way to lift the cup lid to try and help avoid this.

I was thiniking of getting another skimmer due to these issues. I run the skimmer in 6.75" of water due to how my sump works and I have a heavy bioload in my 75+20G sump.

Agree about hands in the water.

i would say once every couple days. Usually I will rinse my hands before I do then wash after so I am not getting soap in the tank. I suppose oils from my skin could be causing the issues?

I see it. It could be salt additives and many things. Id say the skimmer is doing its job. I will say on my 90 I had the same skimmer and updated it to a sro 2000 and it was a vast imporement.

Is your air wide open? Where is the head starting to form, at the cup/body connection?

water level is about .5" above the body/neck joint and below the cup. This is where the foam starts. The air is wide open.

I don't want to upgrade the skimmer, but I might have to.

I'm running the same skimmer in my 150gal and I am really happy with what I've seen, its been running for 8-9 months and I clean the enter skimmer once a month and the cup every 3 days . my tip to you is pull off the air intake that slips into the intake of the pump and look inside it to see if you have any salt build up in there where the air comes in, I've had it clog up on me a couple of times. hope this helps
