Skimmer questions

So I was debating if I should run one of drain lines (from main display) directly to my skimmer with a gate to adjust flow. It's a recirculation skimmer. Reef octo. This a decent idea or not?

How many drain lines are in play?

Just 2, 1 ¹/² in lines

One connected to skimmer one to sump like normal

I use to take one of the lines and run it thru my Octo. With strategically placed ball valves, skimmer level stay constant after some "breaking in"

I assume what's being drained is the top 1/8th inch of the DT into an overflow.

Pretty much. Maybe a 1/4 at most. I debate a isolated pump in the sump but trying to keep.less cords. I have a manifold as well I can tap into. Just exploring options
