Skimmer rating for gallon?

Any skimmer will have the suggested tank sizes in their description. I'd just double check that it will fit where you want to put it. Some skimmers are larger than others.

I'd rather have too much skimming ability than not enough.... you can always turn your skimmer off, or set it on a timer, if over-skimming is a problem.

Bulk reef supply typically has a rating on each skimmer for tank size depending on Light, Medium, or Heavy Load. I always go with one rated for heavy load on my tank size.

I bought the marine x60.2 https://waterboxaquariums.com/products/marine-x and its 36 gallon display and 18 gallon sump. I wanna know when buying a skimmer What should it be rated for my tank how many gallons? I know overkill skimmer tends not do a good job.
Oversized skimmers work great, imo, as I run one. That being said they wont skim much if anything in a newly setup system.
I ran a coral box 300 on my old 18" nano cube with a sump and it worked well with a small footprint.

RO Classic 110, or 110S would do nicely, reliable proven skimmer.

The problem with a skimmer too large is not enough proteins to gather together and spill over into collection cup. A timer doesn’t address this. You end up with an unstable skimmer, constantly playing with valve, and skimmer overflows. Ime a slightly undersized is most desirable

I have found the BRS ratings useful. You get an idea of skimmer power. And BRS offers quite a few of the skimmers you see in the hobby. Quite a few skimmers are rated for bigger tanks by the manufacturers than BRS rates them. A rule of thumb for skimmers is a +1 approach. Plus one means getting a skimmer that is rated for a slightly larger tank.

I prefer an underrated skimmer that will always perform over the bigger but finicky approach.

Also consider your stocking plans. Lots of fish or just a few.
