Hello folks, I have this aquarium
https://waterboxaquariums.com/products/marine-x with the sump that comes with it. But for the life of me, even though I did a lot of research watching videos, I still don't know what skimmer to get for it. Im looking for AC skimmer. Heard they are better than DC..more controllable. But I don't know what brand should I get money is not an issue. Up to 500$ is fine.

DC is the controllable one unless I'm missing something. Skimmers all serve the same purpose and I don't really think there's alot of difference between brands. They are all built the same generally speaking. I use aquamaxx in my reefer 625. I wanted DC and the price point worked for me. You could spend $200 to $1000 on a skimmer and get the same results. Just make sure it's sized for your tank and fits in your sump.

DC is more controllable than AC in the sense you can control pump output. It lets you make a bigger mistake in sizing your skimmer.
I know nothing about your tank but in sump skimmers come 2 basic ways

Pump inside the body takes up less space or pump outside the body is easier to maintain.

Most skimmers are rated like this
Filtration Handling

  • Well Stocked Tank - Rated up to 100 gallons
  • Medium Stocked Tank - Rated up to 150 gallons
  • Light Stocked Tank - Rated up to 210 gallon
I usually go by the well stocked tank size because you will end up there if you stay in the hobby.
With a DC pump you can turn one down.
It will tell you the footprint so you can tell if it will fit in your sump.

Window shop at somewhere like Bulk Reef Supply which has all this info. Pick one and go find where to buy it. Avoid discontinued ones that often look like a deal but no parts will be found if you need one like if you drop a collection cup and crack it.

I suggest a Reef Octopus.

Your link is to webpage with 5 different sized tanks so...

All the skimmers work pretty well.....not sure you can really go wrong with any of the major brands. I buy based on how easy they are to take apart and clean, which is why I went with NYOS skimmers.
