Getting ready to setup a 240 all reef and looking to buy a in-sump skimmer.
A friend of mine suggested a LifeReef VS24, he claims there're the best! After looking at the price $529 is definitely out of my range. I don't have deep pockets, that being said I'm looking for a good skimmer
$300-$400 range. Appreciate any suggestion.

Just a note is that the Lifereef is the only skimmer you'll buy.
When you go with a bubble mangus you might upgrade again after two or three years.
Not even to mention when the last but the pump breaks down and they most to a different design pump and now you have a skimmer but you can't get a pump for :(
Most skimmers on the market do their job and you'll be happy with what ever you choose but it's the long term in this hobby.

I think for your size system combined with the price range you're looking, you should be considering used skimmers rather than brand-new.

The Tunze 9415 would be perfect for your system for example, and for the size of the skimmer is a relative bargain at under $600.

Lifereef and AquaC would be two of my recommendations to look for...but as diesel said most skimmers on the market are actually pretty good these days in terms of skimming performance, so don't feel too limited.

Just do your research on whatever options you consider to avoid any features you might not end up liking… Like 1 million thumb-screws holding the skimmer cup together.... Makes routine cleaning a nightmare.

I've had the opposite reaction to Bubble Maguso than Diesel. I've had three of there skimmers now. The last being a Curve 9 on my 240. The oldest of the three is now 5 or 6 years old and still running strong. I would not have a second thought about recommending one. They have a new DC line of skimmers out now also.

Reef octopus is another line of skimmers that have always done right by me. The classic line is proven and priced well.

Used reef octopus sro5000 is what I would look for.great skimmer and in your price range
