So I need to replace my external pump before it breaks. It's going on 10 years and loud.

Dude at LFS (he kicks butt) wanted to basically replace everything underneath (and I absolutely wanted him to) but #1 we are not definitely not getting the sump tank out from underneath without a complete rebuild (it was dropped in from the top 8 years or so ago and #2 LFS dude said that they don't make skimmers "that size" anymore re: the new ones are made to sit in a much shorter sump (if that makes any sense).

This guy is an expert at his craft, and I'm sure he's right, but I figured I'd at least put this question out there.

Any help appreciated.

Do they make a skimmer that will work in a tank that deep? According to my man Mike at LFS they don't.

The skimmer is probably 10 years old.

Thank you.

You can try talking to Jeff at Lifereef. His skimmers don't require a specific water depth to sit in and he custom makes them as needed.
Might be a good place to start.

Oh ok. I think the easy solution is to measure the overall head room under the stand. Then find a skimmer you like and put it on skimmer stand that fits under your constrain. Homade stand is best way to go. Call it a day.
