I have a new system which has a packaged skimmer. I've spent the last week and a bit making the filtration of my system quieter however I've now turned the skimmer on and it hums rather loudly. It's not vibrating the sump or stand a very much so I think a replacement pump at some point is in order.
My question ultimately is with my 140L system (36US/G) could I get away with running my skimmer on a timer for when I'm not home or when i'm in my room watching TV
a) 0700 - 1800 daily
b) 24hrs except 1745 - 2200
Essentially allowing me to watch TV and/or sleep in the room next door without the skimmer running?
I'll have 1-2 fish before I look to replace the pump with something quieter.
Now, I know the first option will be run for 24 hours but would it be really harmful to run it less.
