Thoughts on a skimmer for an 80 gallon tank with a 60 gallon sump. I have an xp3000. Would this be too much? Should I go smaller? If so any recommendations?

Thats a big ole skimmer! I have a skimmer that is rated for 300 gallons on my 100 gallon system, But I also have lots of fish and corals and feed 3-4 times a day. If you plan to heavily stockit, which you obviously could then give it a go, and see how it works.

Big ole skimmer for a big ole sump! Sump is 23x48. So space is not an issue. Just don't know if that much over sizing will work well on the skimmer

Yup. You'll be just fine with that beasty. It'll more than keep your water clean..

You already have a great Skimmer i would say keep the one you have and feed heavy and have Fat and Happy Fish...
