With the new psk1000 pump on my Avast skimmer the silencer seems to be restricting the flow of air. Just looking to see if anyone has instructions on building a silencer.

Thanks

Just have the airline open and see how loud it is, if u want to make a new one there have been DIYs using pill bottles

Its loud. I ended up shortening the riser pipe about an inch which helped a lot, the silencer is back on.

Thanks

i used an empty peroxide bottle. drilled a hole in the cap and the bottom. shoved the airline in 1 side and works like a charm

If the basic 2 overlap pipe silencer isn't enough, you can make a big one and stuff it with pebbles, filter floss, cotton balls, or I used used phosphate removing pellets to break up the sound. I got the idea from old silent giant air pumps... the air pump is sealed inside of a giant cylinder of fine gravel... that kills vibration and noise of just about anything.

Anyone have any pics of the "pill bottle" DIY silencer?

Just pics pulled from google

The main idea is to have the openings for the airline at opposite ends of the cylinder, facing away from each other (usually facing the endcap on either end if one line goes in each end). This way, the noise has to bounce off of the ends to get out, and it allows you to stuff filter floss, pebbles, or some other media in between to muzzle the sound.
