skimmer size

I have redsea 170e 53 gallon mixed reef.
I just bought the redsea reefer 300 skimmer, but now I have second thoughts - could the reefer 300 be 'too powerful'/oversized for the size of my tank? Would over skimming be an issue? or could that be corrected by feedings/or even using skimmer on a timer?

I skim 4 times a day. Mainly after feeding and at night.
