Skimmer sizing for Nano

Hi all, I have been offered a TMC 500 Pro skimmer for my nano tank, tank and sump consume about 115 litres, guy is not using it anymore so happy to give it to me.

My tank arrived with Proskim G216 which is rated at 400ltrs and TMC is rated at 500ltrs so not much difference.

The question I have is around skimmers in nano tanks. My aim is around 5-6 smallish fish, good clean up crew (shrimp, hermits and snails) and SPS corals. Is a skimmer of that size really needed? will the bio load be enough To keep either skimmer busy or should I look at a smaller skimmer (and if so any opinions on which ones to look at)

If you’re getting the skimmer for free it wouldn’t hurt to run it but in my opinion it isn’t needed for 30 gallon and under tanks since they’re so easy and cheap to do weekly water changes. But if you’re worried about getting around to doing water changes it would sure help keep things stable. I run one on my 60 gallon but not on my 10. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the thought. The current skimmer does not get any content so I will try without and continue through cycling without anything. Free is nice but if not needed he can always sell it and make some cash himself.

Won't hurt, but you won't need it if you're doing weekly water changes in a nano.
