Skimmer sucked up my clown

Sad day- my reef octopus bh1000 sucked up my clown. First fish in my tank.

Anyone have this happen? Looks like he swam thru the slits of the surface skimmer.

Can I stuff a sponge into that area to fill those slits?

Really bummed.

I've had that happen with an overflow box in my past experience. After that I used a sponge like you mentioned only temporary. But never again have I used open top flow boxes without using any protection. Use plastic mesh they come in many shapes and sizes.
