So I've had my tank for 5 years, but would like to add a skimmer, as I've never had one on it. I run a canister filter so it had to be hang on. I want to keep it around 100 bux. I was looking at sea clone and corallife 65.the tank is 29 gallons.
Please don't waste your time trying to sell me on skimmers outside my price range. I would like some input on these skimmers or others in my price point only. Thanks

I will admit that I had the sea clone and it did not work at all for me. I have heard mixed reviews on the corallife skimmers as well. I would look into the Aquatic Life skimmer. My friend runs it on her 29 gallon tank and loves it.

Lol ok I'll be sure to cross it off my list.

For $100... your best bet is something decent..... used ;) Reef Octopus, and bubble magus make decent skimmers you could possibly find used for your price range, or if you could wait and save a little more just buy new. Obviously you have been running the system fine without so a little longer to get a better piece of equipment and not waste it on a shed door prop would be a good decision IMO.

I'm currently bidding on a reef octopus bh90. Well see where that goes.

I always liked my tunze 9002.

I found a week old reef octopus the seller listed as bin for 125.00. Although the listing is not showing the 125.00 bin price the seller agreed to sell it to me shipped for that price. It's so new it comes with instructions and original box. I put in the 125.00 bid so I should get it. I think this is a nice skimmer for the price?

I picked up an Aquamaxx HOB when I set my tank for about 100 bucks I can't remember the exact price, it was used but it works great!! I think new they are out of your price range but I'm sure you can find one used.

Ok well I won the auction for the reef octopus bh-90 at 125.00. Can't wait to get it. Thanks everyone for the suggestions I think this will be a good skimmer

I use the coralife 65, had the same issue as you, had to be hang-on and in a good price range, Its rather noisy, but it gets the job done, pretty well actually! Easy to clean, and the company is great with customer service, always sends new parts if an issue and is glad to help, +1 on the coralife.

Paul, you might try changing the Venturi valve to quiet it down. I bought the reef octopus mainly because it's supposed to be quiet, or at least in terms of skimmers.

Skimmer + 100$ = garbage.
Looks like you did the right thing and found a decent used one:xd:

Lol yeah I started to realize 100 wasn't gonna do it. I was ready to just spend the money on a new one until I saw the used one. It's only a week old according to the seller so might as well be brand new

Honestly anything for that price is garbage. Save up!

Does anybody read threads anymore?
I bought a reef octopus on eBay.
Sadly he was supposed to ship on Saturday, which he did not, so he said Monday for sure, and no tracking or shipping yet according to eBay account. I guess I'll give him till tomorrow to ship, but honestly for an extra 50 bux I could have bought brand new and had it by now -(
