So haven't really been in the skimmer game since I've been running my skimz for the past 2.5 years.
Due to a recent tank upgrade i think its time to upgrade the skimmer.
I have been looking but really not sure what options there are.
the sump section for the skimmer is around 10 inch by 10 inch and i have about 21 inch high under my stand. The tank is a 93 gallon sps dominate tank. I was thinking of either the nyos 120 or 160. Also heard good things about rlss skimmers but can't realy find them for sale. Would love to hear some suggestions on skimmers.
Thanks in advance

I'm gonna just hold you right there and say that I've owned many skimmers in my past and from experience the bigger the skimmer you get the better if your sps dominant In 93 gallon then a skimmer that should be suitable for you must have at least a mad bioload of 110 gallons just so you have wiggle room. Medium will be about 120-139 and then light would be 150 gallons. I have a 90 gallon with a skimmer on heavy bio load of 110 and there is a big difference so the bigger the better. Second, I have been running a reef octopus skimmer for the past 4 years with no problem at all and it works great. The new skimmers on the market have the idea of what skimming does but they add a look to it. If I was you I would look into either the reef octopus or nyos. I did however find the nyos for $299 instead of $399 it's just an open box and someone returned it back into the retailer with no problems or damage. https://www.saltwateraquarium.com/quantum-120-skimmer-130-gallon-used-open-box-return-nyos-aquatics/

And here's the new reef octopus skimmer

Thank you for the reply.. Unfortunately that open box sold. I'm torn between the NYOS 120 and 160. I cant seem to find accurate rating for these skimmers other than the 25-130 gallons for the 120 and 70-265 gallons for the 160. I feel like that 160 may be over killer.

I used the coral box (yup, el cheapo ones) and had pretty awesome results. Beat the SRO and Tunze I used to use.(and it's dc pump based)
Though the only issue was the outflow gate valve wasn't very sealed, so I had to add a piece of acrylic to hold it shut better.

You will definitely want to upgrade to a CO-2 or CO-3 skimmer in that case. I have a CO-1 on a 75 gallon which preforms flawlessly. However... I do feel it is underpowered.
Thank you unfortunately those two wont work due to the footprint.

I actually picked up a RLSS DB6-i back in Jan, it's done a very good job. I upgraded from a Reef Oct 110-int. I think I just lucked into someone having them in stock since I haven't seen many of the DB6-i's out there yet.

How are you liking your nyos? I have the 220 and am happy with it for the most part. Biggest pain is how much I need to twist the neck to keep it from leaking.

So far I love it. I had to put it together in my sump cause it wouldn't fit. I love how quiet it is you really can't tell it running without looking at it. Its also pulling some good skimate for my fairly light bioload.
