If you're not having nutrient issues I wouldn't consider a replacement. If you are, you could save money by putting other means of filtration in place.
 
Well I guess the first question is what are your chemistry parameters? If you already have low PO4 and NO3, you probably don't need any more filtration. If you have small nuisance algae, maybe adjust feeding regiments? Other things like carbon dosing, GFO, filter socks or other types of mechanical filtration, biological filtration like sintered glass or marine pure.
 
i have a 120 also, and it just depends on your bioload. from the sound of it you should be fine. if you get more fish you will want to consider getting a bigger skimmer, or doing water changes more frequently. if you keep the same bioload tho you should be able to keep sps, because of the small bioload.
