I think I posted my question in the wrong place -- so, I'll try here.
I have a JBJ45 and have been using the CAD Lights PLS 50 Elite skimmer. When it works, it works well. However, the pump is problematic and I need to replace the skimmer.
I'm looking closely at the Tunze 9004 which has mixed reviews (as does every piece of equipment I've ever researched). However, it does appear that the DC model gets better reviews than the AC model.
I would appreciate any experience with either Tunze model -- or any other skimmer recommendations. I'm not, however, interested in a HOB style skimmer.
Thanks for your time,

We bought 2 of the 9004 DC, one is for a jbj 45 that is currently on a freight truck the other went in a 45 breeder. The one is still breaking in and has already collected a bunch of crap.

If you get one, set it up and leave the air dial alone and see how things pan out for a day or so. Not having experience with skimmers I turned the dial up to see the bubbles and ended up bubbling up overnight.

I can't speak the Tunze skimmer, but I have been pleased with other Tunze products. I have had a Bubble Magnus running for 6 years in my sump. It has been reliable and is relatively easy to set up. I take it out periodically and run it through a good vinegar bath, rinse well, and stick it back in the sump. The biggest problem I'd had is when it starts running extremely wet (bubbling over) for no apparent reason, even when it's dialed completely down. I usually just raise it a little higher out of the water and it settles back down. Otherwise, I'm happy with it.
